SCHOLASTIC ART AWARDS – Deadline: December 16, 2015. Time to make your Scholastic Art account and start creating the work you want to send to them. You can send any art made since January 2015. PTSA PHOTOGRAPHY AWARD – Deadline: December 14, 2015. The PTSA (Parent Teacher Association) has a yearly contest called Reflections for students. The theme for this year is “Let your imagination fly.” It is not required for the student to be a PTSA member and all other requirements are provided below. ART CENTER/ NATIONAL PORTFOLIO DAY – January 17, 2016. The National Portfolio Day for the Los Angeles Area is on Jan 17, 2016 at Art Center College in Pasadena, CA. This is an event where students applying to art schools go and show their artwork to the schools they plan to apply to for portfolio review and feedback before they apply. It’s free to attend, and you can get lots of information about the schools at this event. Here is the link with a list of the schools attending: portfolioday.net

CAL ARTS PHOTOGRAPHY PROGRAM – Deadline: December 15, 2015. This program provides 10 weeks of instruction during the spring semester for high school students. Students will learn how to use a manual 35mm camera, how to process black and white film, and how to print in the darkroom. Participants engage with CalArts faculty and student instructors in a productive environment where technical and conceptual skills expand. Participants’ work will be celebrated in public exhibitions at selected venues. APPLY HERE!!
Class Times: Saturdays, 10:00am – 4:00pm / Dates: February 6 – April 16, 2016 / Location: CalArts, Photo Lab – Sublevel (24700 McBean Parkway, Valencia, CA 91355). Transportation provided from Grand Arts.

GRAND AVE ARTS: ALL ACCESS – Saturday, Oct. 24 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 11 cultural organizations along the arts-centric stretch from Temple to Sixth Street present a free one-day cultural event. Stop by for performances, exhibitions, behind-the-scenes tours, and interactive, family-friendly activities. FREE! More info at grandavearts.tumblr.com

YOUNG ARTS – Deadline: October 14. Young Arts gives millions of dollars in art scholarships each year. It’s open to all students at our school grades 9-12. To enter, you must make an online account and upload your images. Scholarships = Free Money. These are the biggest art scholarships available. Students may apply for a fee waiver to enter for free if they have filled out a lunch application as part of a Title 1 school. MILES ALDRIDGE: THE PURE WONDER – September 10 through October 17. The Fahey/Klein Gallery is pleased to present “The Pure Wonder” a retrospective exhibition featuring work by London based contemporary photographer Miles Aldridge. The exhibition includes large-scale photographic prints throughout Aldridge’s career. Reception for the Artist: Thursday, September 10, 7-9 pm. More info / Directions
