YOUNG ARTS – Deadline: October 14. Young Arts gives millions of dollars in art scholarships each year. It’s open to all students at our school grades 9-12. To enter, you must make an online account and upload your images. Scholarships = Free Money. These are the biggest art scholarships available. Students may apply for a fee waiver to enter for free if they have filled out a lunch application as part of a Title 1 school. SCHOLASTIC ART AWARDS – Deadline: December 16. Time to make your Scholastic Art account and start creating the work you want to send to them. You can send any art made since January 2015. Time to start thinking about this excellent opportunity to win money and scholarships. Many of our 10-11th graders have won summer classes at local art schools. More info at artandwriting.org
EVENTS
ART CENTER/ NATIONAL PORTFOLIO DAY – January 17, 2016. The National Portfolio Day for the Los Angeles Area is on Jan 17, 2016 at Art Center College in Pasadena, CA. This is an event where students applying to art schools go and show their artwork to the schools they plan to apply to for portfolio review and feedback before they apply. VISUAL & PERFOMING ARTS COLLEGE FAIR– October 24 at UCLA. The event is free. There are metered parking lots with hourly rates, or all day passes for parking. This is a great event to find both art schools and universities with strong art departments and the booths distribute application and scholarship information. It is not a portfolio review event. MILES ALDRIDGE: THE PURE WONDER – September 10 through October 17. The Fahey/Klein Gallery is pleased to present “The Pure Wonder” a retrospective exhibition featuring work by London based contemporary photographer Miles Aldridge. The exhibition includes large-scale photographic prints throughout Aldridge’s career. Reception for the Artist: Thursday, September 10, 7-9 pm. More info / Directions
